On May 16, 2024, China and Russia issued an extraordinary joint statement, which overshadows the famous “no limits” partnership statement from February 2022. This statement comes on foot of the series of international geopolitical events that started with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s ill-fated visit to Beijing in April, traced through a whirlwind tour of France, Serbia and Hungary and culminated with President Putin’s extensive state visit to China.
