In a reflection on the life of the late Tony O’Reilly published last week, Sam Smyth recalled the publication of the 1997 election editorial on the Irish Independent‘s front page during the newspaper’s period when O’Reilly was its largest shareholder, and discussions with his colleagues there at the time, journalists Brendan Keenan and Vinnie Doyle.
