On May 28, the black, white, green and red of the Palestinian flag hung in the breeze inside the gates of Leinster House alongside the EU and Ukrainian flags. The gesture marked the Government’s recognition of Palestinian statehood alongside its counterparts in Spain and Norway. Outliers among Western countries, the three countries belatedly joined 141 other countries, the vast majority of UN members, who have long recognised the state of Palestine.
