One can imagine a large collective sigh of relief in the offices of Coimisiún na Meán on Thursday. In two cases taken against the new tech and media regulator by tech firms Reddit and Tumblr, Justice Siobhán Phelan ruled in the watchdog’s favour. The two cases were separate but both centred on one similar key complaint around Coimisiún na Meán designating the two companies as video-sharing platforms as part of the regulator’s Online Safety Code.
