An Garda Síochana has paid hundreds of thousands of euro to an Israeli cyberdefence company that has worked with Israeli authorities to crack thousands of Palestinian phones seized by the Israel Defense Forces since the beginning of its invasion of Gaza. The company, Cellebrite, has deep links to Israel’s military and intelligence apparatus and has previously been criticised by rights groups for selling its technology to repressive governments including Russia and China. In 2021 alone, the most recent year for which complete spending data is publicly available, the gardaí spent over €200,000 on Cellebrite’s services. LinkedIn profiles for garda officers…
