It’s a key tool in European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s latest attempt to finally get the EU-Mercosur trade deal done. Effectively a dispute resolution procedure, the rebalancing mechanism allows one side of the deal to claim compensation in cases where the trade deal has negative impacts on them.
