Years ago, I read the book Living with Uncertainty by Ian Scoones about how pastoral communities live with the uncertainty of weather, rainfall, pasture and fodder availability and market prices. To be successful, pastoralists have to move and adapt constantly to manage risk and find the resources to survive and make a living.
