“Finally, finally, finally.” This is how the Tánaiste, Simon Harris, greeted the findings of a briefing from the EU’s Special Representative for Human Rights (SRHR) which highlights “indications” that Israel is in breach of human rights obligations under the EU-Israel Association Agreement. The clause is, as the EU underlined in February at a meeting with an Israeli delegation, “an essential element” of the agreement which created a free trade area for industrial goods and an overall preferential economic, commercial and research status between the two markets.
