Everyone has a past. But not everyone seeks to occupy Áras an Uachtaráin. The controversies that first derailed, and then ended, Jim Gavin’s tilt at the presidency will ultimately be relegated to history, a footnote on yet another failed attempt by a political novice in a presidential campaign. Using drone footage captured without the appropriate permissions having been secured for use in social media posts is highly embarrassing, especially given Gavin’s senior role with the Irish Aviation Authority.
