The sight of the gleaming new military equipment on show in Beijing during the 80th anniversary of peace between China and Japan garnered global attention. Weapons that can reach anywhere on the planet in 14 minutes and new unmanned technologies were front and centre as Russian President Vladimir Putin and his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong Un could barely contain their giddiness amidst the pageantry.  Clearly, China is strategically positioning itself as the epicentre of new military prowess.
