Last time out, I looked at the extent to which Ireland’s housing crisis is a cross-European phenomenon. In particular, using the recent Eurofound report, I argued that Europe’s housing crisis is best understood not through prices or rents alone, but through the growing gap between how younger adults live and how they would choose to live if housing systems worked properly.  Across countries with very different cultures and institutions, we are seeing delayed household formation, prolonged dependence on parents or shared living with strangers, and life choices shaped by what housing allows rather than by preference.
