Six whistleblower reports raising serious concerns at private refugee accommodation centres were received by the Office of Protected Disclosures Commissioner in 2025, The Currency can confirm. The details follow the release of the commissioner’s latest report which also highlighted concerns over the State’s oversight of private emergency accommodation within the international protection system. The commissioner role, held by Ger Deering, was set up in 2023 as a first port of call for reports from public and private sector workers on workplace wrongdoing, often referred to as whistleblowing.
