An Iranian man living in Spain has brought High Court proceedings against Coinbase over the alleged wrongful freezing, retention, and seizure of cryptocurrency assets valued at more than €2 million. Ali Asghar Afrouz, now based in Marbella, claims his crypto deposits stem from the sale of a beachfront property in Iran in 2022, and constitute his personal life savings and retirement fund.  The 74-year-old, who moved to Europe in 2022, is seeking orders to restore his Coinbase account, closed in July 2025, so he can withdraw his digital assets.
