Canada is moving ahead with the repossession of a Russian cargo plane that it believes is owned through an Irish company after a court rebuffed the airline’s attempt to have sanctions lifted. Volga-Dnepr, which is under sanctions in numerous Western jurisdictions, sought a judicial review against Canada’s foreign affairs minister for continuing to impose sanctions against the company. Canada placed Volga-Dnepr under sanctions – including the Irish company specifically – after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. One of Volga-Dnepr’s planes, an Antonov An-124 Ruslan cargo aircraft capable of carrying 150 tonnes, was seized at Toronto Pearson International Airport in February 2022…
