Irish-based lessors are owed more than $20 million (€17.9 million) by Latvia’s flag carrier AirBaltic as it enters bankruptcy protection in the US. The long-embattled airline, which is majority owned by Latvia, serves dozens of locations in Europe (including several Dublin flights), the Middle East and North Africa and is a major transport pillar in connecting the Baltic region. The voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy measures in the US courts by the Latvian flag carrier are to address its more than $580 million in debts and liabilities.
