In August 2021, Brian Leddin, Green Party TD for Limerick, became embroiled in a political scandal over comments he made on a private WhatsApp group about his ex-girlfriend being “unhinged” and craving fame. The remarks, leaked to The Irish Mail on Sunday, were branded “repulsive” and “misogynistic” by Catherine Martin, the then deputy leader of Leddin’s own party, but he was not sanctioned for them.
