When Leo Varadkar joined Government colleagues to present the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill to the press on Wednesday evening, the Tánaiste was asked about his recent public spat with the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet). Varadkar had come prepared, acknowledging his “anger” and delivering a packaged soundbite: “What we need is not the Government versus Nphet, it’s Ireland versus Covid.” He said he would stop there to avoid taking away from the launch of the climate bill.
