Having just raised £7 million, Simon Phelan, the Dubliner who founded the home services and insurance start-up, Hometree, has said he believes his business can challenge market behemoths British Gas and Homeserve. Phelan was speaking to The Currency after closing the new fundraising round, which was led by global investment firm Anthemis, and existing investors DN Capital and Literacy Capital, a fund led by former Capita chief executive Paul Pindar. Competitor Homeserve is listed on the London Stock Exchange with a £4 billion market cap, while British Gas is owned by Centrica, which has a market cap of £2.4 billion.…
