We live in a world where the national attention can be captured by a thoughtless backbencher’s stupid tweet. For a week. This is understandable. We have had four years of hanging on Donald Trump’s 140-character missiles. At the same time, we are swamped with the minutiae of the ur-story that is Covid. There’s little in-between.
