Before going bankrupt in the UK in 2012, HKR architect Jerry Ryan agreed a scheme to transfer ownership of a Middle Eastern architectural company worth around €7 million to his businessman friend Barry English for €77,000. According to a High Court ruling in May 2019 the share deal was a caretaker arrangement, a sham by Ryan “to salt away very substantial assets for his own benefit” out of the clutches of his creditors.
