Leo Varadkar has made silly political misjudgements and occasionally behaved foolishly, but he is not corrupt. In fact, comparing the venality of past Taoisigh and government ministers to the accusations of criminality levelled against him by political opponents suggests that the allegations are both cynical and opportunistic. Detectives continue to investigate whether he was in breach of the Criminal Justice (Corruption Offences) Act 2018 when he gave a confidential document to a doctor/friend in April 2019.
