After a brutal year for the hospitality industry, it is fitting that FBD’s payouts to pubs would rest on the meaning of the word “closure”, with its evocation of overcoming grief and hardship. Having won in February their High Court test case that they were entitled to Covid-19 related business interruption cover from the Irish insurer four publicans; the Lemon & Duke, the Leopardstown Inn, Sinnotts and Sean’s Bar have still to be fully compensated. But before the High Court can determine the issue quantum, it has to tidy up ancillary matters about the extent of cover offered to publicans…
