Revenue officials know that November is traditionally the busiest time of the year for corporation tax. Even so, they must have been taken aback by the wall of money that came at them last month. Companies paid just over €4 billion, the highest monthly amount ever collected in corporation tax. This is €778 million more than the Department of Finance was expecting – despite the €464 million lost to the Covid restrictions and business resumption support schemes.
