You don’t hear much talk about the economy in Ireland. It’s taken as given that our economy grows about twice as fast as other European countries. Ireland’s economy is extraordinary, by any standard. I remember after the Dotcom crash and 9/11, when growth slowed from 10.5 per cent to 3 per cent. Then there was the global financial crisis. Then Covid. Each time, the foreign direct investment machine powered back up, and came to Ireland’s rescue. But the FDI model won’t work forever. This tax harmonisation thing might kill it off, or maybe something else in five years’ time. So…
