When the pandemic struck, hand sanitiser became one of the most sought-after products on the market. At that time, the worldwide supply of hand sanitiser was far shy of demand, so Irish hospitals, like Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, began commissioning local distilleries to make the alcohol-based antiseptic in bulk. In March 2020, the Crumlin hospital reached out to Arderin Distilleries, home of Mòr Irish Gin in Tullamore, to put in an order.
