Despite the logistical challenges posed by Brexit and the economic disruption caused by the pandemic, the Irish tax authority yesterday confirmed a record tax haul for 2021. Net Exchequer receipts totalled €67.5 billion last year, up by 20 per cent, or €11.3 billion, on figures for 2020. A portion of that number, however, has not actually been collected at all. Instead, under a scheme designed to boost liquidity for companies impacted by Covid-19, around €3 billion currently sits in a debt warehouse.
