The Labour Court has criticised as “impractical and unrealistic” steps taken to resolve a pensions dispute at CHC Helicopters, current operators of the €600 million Irish Coast Guard search-and-rescue (SAR) helicopter service. Following a hearing last month, the court urged further engagement between the parties rather than making recommendations on the merits of the dispute. The Forsa trade union wants additional pension cover from CHC for its members, arguing that contributions made by the Canadian company in other jurisdictions are higher than those made in Ireland.
