There is a right bang of 2007 off this election. There’s a whiff of 1977 about it, too. The economy is booming. Parties are competing to out-promise each other using populist soundbites and off-kilter twitter videos. A decade-old change to pension policy is being re-written in the middle of the campaign. Semi-dodgy numbers are flying around the place. There is much gnashing of teeth, pointing of fingers and calling of names.
