When GAA president Larry McCarthy rose in Croke Park to present Kerry with the Sam Maguire after their All Ireland victory two weeks ago, he first thanked the officials – “the unsung heroes of the GAA” – then the GAA’s sponsors before declaring the inter-county season at an end. “Today we finish a wonderful inter-county season and we turn the calendar to the most important part of the GAA, the club championship.
