A major milestone in Ireland’s energy transition was achieved last week.  Long in the plans of successive governments, renewable gas was piped directly into the national gas network for the first time from a biomethane production plant as the valve was turned at the Bia Energy anaerobic digestion facility in Huntstown.  The plan is for biomethane to seamlessly replace natural gas and help reduce emissions in heating, industry, transport, and power generation.
