This summer was hot, really hot. France had its hottest summer since records began in 1900. Successive heatwaves meant an unprecedented number of heatwave days – 53 days in fact, across three heatwaves over the summer season, far exceeding the 33 days recorded in the summer of 2022.  Add to this the lack of rain, a deficit of nearly 40%, making it the second driest in France since records began, and drought also became an issue.
