Last October a spending review of the Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund (DTIF) was carried out by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. It found that the DTIF should maintain its focus on SMEs to drive disruptive innovation. The literature points to the important role of smaller firms in introducing disruption to the market. This, as a start-up founder, made me happy. However, there is no mention of ‘start-up’, which I feel is a massive oversight.
