As we enter into a new decade, members of the Chinese leadership have a few important milestones on their horizon. Even though the coronavirus will have a huge impact on GDP in the first couple of quarters, China’s 5.9 per cent GDP growth target for 2020 is highly symbolic. This number would ensure that China’s economy has doubled in size since 2010 and this will be the first of China’s targets that will be almost certainly out of reach.
