A motion was put forward in recent days by an MEP for the European Parliament to increase the level of funding through the Horizon 2020 programme for promoting innovation within the EU. The highly contested grant programme would usually attract around 2,000 applications in each call; in March, it attracted more than 4,000 submissions.
