As the founder of a tech start-up, I hear time and time again that investors invest in three things: team, team and (you’ve guessed it), team. If that is indeed true, then what qualities are looked for in a team exactly? Have they done this before and successfully? Do they have domain expertise? Any measure to mitigate against the risk of failure, one assumes. We must allow, of course for some ‘soft’ arguments such as gut-feel or familiarity but surely if team is the deciding factor then there must be some science in the assessment process.
