Australian golfer Cameron Smith, who won the British Open in July, was among the most high profile defector to the new LIV tournament circuit, backed by the government of Saudi Arabia and a serious challenger to the dominant US tour run by the players’ collective. Fifty top golfers have signed up, the LIV tour is up and running, and more big names will surely be tempted.
